Title: Akami cloud dns causes me some frustration
Post by: LynK on September 19, 2016, 07:46:13 AM
Guys,

Do any of you have a reliable reverse DNS for akami cloud IP addresses. This is frustrating to our organization because we want to know exactly where our clients are going, and in our netflow all we see is:

a104-96-220-98.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com
(104.96.220.98)

I have been trying to find a reliable tool that will actually give me the dns of the host on that server. But I have yet to find any. I know the basis of the akami security is to be a 'hide-behind' and the protect the end client. But is there anything we can use to actually find out the sites?

Are you logging outbound DNS requests? That would be the easiest way. Locate the DNS request that returned that IP for the client to use. DNS logging can be noisy so make sure your logging server is ready if you do enable it.
