Title: Whisky Whats your tipple
Post by: weasleman on May 17, 2017, 09:14:07 AM
Everyone has their drink. Mine just happens to be whisky....... nice ages single malt scotch Whisky. But even better than scotch I love a Japanese whisky. I know people going to say the Japanese make whisky!!! YEP they sure do and they make such a nice Whisky. The Yamasaki distillery won the world whisky awards last year.
Also there are two main distilleries in Japan Yamazaki and Nikki both make good whisky but my preference is for the Yamazaki.

I don't drink alcohol, so it's usually the diet cola for me when the vendor takes us all out to the steak house.

But I do like to keep up on how to be a wine ponce, as James May refers to television's Oz Clarke.

If I can say stuff like, "Terrois is *so* important to consider for a pinot noir," then I consider my work as a ponce complete. :smug:

I have the exact same bottle of Hibiki at home. Got it for my birthday and they told me not to open it (apparently they're not producing it anymore?) but I couldn't resist :) The Nikka Whiskey was also great but quite expensive for a 0,5l bottle.

Used to have somewhere around 10 bottles but those are all empty now  All my friends are doing Gin now, hipsters!

The hibiki 21 is worth around £500 uk
Its not that its no produced anymore its that they could not keep up with the demand. When i visited the distillery in 2016 i was told the chinese had bought everything they had. Think it was after the world whisky awards.

I found that 21 in a shop in nagasaki as i could not get anywhere else

The hibiki came in 4 versions
hibiki 12
hibiki 17
hibiki 21
hibiki 30

Now harmony (awful drink)

Tried the 30 that was a very nice drink. also tried the hakushu 25

If you want a resonably nice but cheap whisky and its another one of my favourites try the "Auchroisk 10 Year Old". Expect to pay maximum £50 if you want to pay a little bit more try the dalmore cigar malt.

I dont drink much but when i do i like something nice.

Well, it probably won't be the 21 unless the friend that gave it really really likes me. I'll have a look when I'm home. There's been a period where I would buy a bottle every one or two months (mainly airport shops when traveling for work) but it got too expensive.

I dont drink that much so whisky lasts me a long time. Thats why i can justify paying for a nice bottle. The nikka Coffey malt and coffey grain are nice as well.

Nikka also did a remake off an old whisky called super nikka which was nice.

But if you want cheap and a nice drink Auchrioks 10

Also just had a thought try kavalan whisky taiwanese :)
