Title: Powerline doesn't work online
Post by: umby75 on September 17, 2017, 07:39:27 PM

Hi, I've got a couple XWN5001 Wifi adapter and XAV5201 Netgear to send data signal into power line.

Some days ago I changed my security key in my network and I setted factory settings on my couple of powerline.

Now I have all leds of powerline adapters lighted on steadly but I can't navigate on internet but only into lan network.

I resetted them and I restarted my router but I didn't fix the issue.

Why does it happen?

How can I solve it?

What do you have connecting you to the Internet?

can you resolve host names or not?
Trying to see if this is a DNS issue, but if you have no internet, you probably don't have DNS resolution.

Yes, I think so too.
I tried to set 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 but I use mainly 208.67 222.222 and 208.67.220.220 as I always use it but now I can't navigate anymore...

Let me try again... which device in your network is responsible for the connection between your home LAN and the Internet? Which device has the information on it for connecting to your Internet Service Provider?

OK, are the settings on the TpLink correct for Internet access? If you plug a device directly into that, does it work OK?

If yes to those questions, then you need to test the link between the Ethernet over Powerline adapter and the TpLink.

Try pinging your default gateway first, to verify connectivity from your PC to the router at the other end of the powerline.
If that doesn't work, you know the problem is probably on the powerline adapter...

I can navigate with all devices except devices connected to powerline.
The network works fine with pc, nas and can connected through ethernet directly to router.
About your second question I have all XAVB5201's LEDs lit on with ethernet LED included..

Into the Lan is ok because as I said some post before I can access into my Synology Nas through the powerline.
The issue is related only about internet access from powerline that has all LEDs lit on (green, green, blue)..

Post output of these commands from behind the powerline

- ping <default gateway ip>
- ping 8.8.8.8
- arp -a
- ipconfig /all

All of the LEDs on does not mean anything except that the lights are on. The settings on the powerline to connect to the Internet are probably not correct. You will not see that in the LEDs.

Do like SimonV recommended, and we will learn more about the connectivity settings.

This device is able to ping 8.8.8.8 - that tells me that you have internet connectivity. If this is a device that is on the powerline network, then it looks like you should be able to get on the Internet.

yes, looks okay. Next, try a DNS query against that DNS server

14:CC:20 Tp-LinkT TP-LINK TECHNOLOGIES CO.,LTD.

The MAC address of 192.168.1.1 belongs to TP-Link. Is your home router also TP-link?

I'm using a TpLink N600 W8980..

That is correct.

So, if this device is on the powerline network, all is working. If it is not on the powerline network, we need the same tests run while connected to the powerline network and see where we have differences.

Yep, this is my router in my home with powerline.
Therefore is my powerline damaged?

OK, so that means the powerline network allows connections to the Internet. That is the good news for you.

Now we need to see what is possibly blocking that traffic. Do you know if there are any firewall settings on any device that is on your network? It is possible that the reset may have changed those values.

I haven't changed things since I changed my wifi passkey and my firewall setting into router is disabled. It's very strange case..(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170922/40f1f79f141de9c32147e65e408150d9.jpg)

Try going to Google by doing http://172.217.17.142

If that works, you got some kind of DNS issue in your browser, reboot should fix it.

Okokok!
I''ve restored my powerline through Wps method!

I set up using Wps feature by router and now I've my wifi network cloned by powerline....and mainly real access to internet!!

I can't know why I encountered this issue..

I tried many ways but only with Wps feature I've fixed it.

Sometimes now I notice some interrupting on wifi but it is restored early.

Probably my powerline is partially damaged..

That makes sense then, to have a concern about power lines, especially if you are in an older building.

Yes, but in my case I don't think my issue was related by electrical system because I wouldn't have had success through the Wps method to configure the powerline..

Not necessarily... often, hardware issues are random in nature, especially in borderline cases where a connection is *almost* made, but is in a state of flux. WPS could work one hour and then be dodgy the next.
