Title: Work whining
Post by: dlots on December 04, 2017, 12:16:14 PM
People on our networking team:  We can't trust the core to handle this traffic, what if it goes down?  Let's send it over a single Ethernet cable instead between 2 switches!!

Those are only plugged into a Fex.  The FEX can't do anything on it's own so we don't need to worry about it's security. (Fex is part of a 5K with routing)

if you core might go down, I think you've got bigger problems at hand.

hopefully 2300 series FEX, otherwise they'll be learning about the tiny FEX buffers real soon.

Hope so.  I just got pulled into the "design the network" project for this, but apparently they already designed it and I got yelled at for pointing out issues.  Apparently you shouldn't make suggestions on how to design the network in a network design meeting... who knew.

Not when the design is done.

Yeah, when the design is done, it's like the designers hold design meetings the way rock band guitarists ask you how you like their new song. The just want you to say you like it, it's good, and then STFU.

You should email them that concern, though, so you can CYA when it blows up. Make sure your retention period on "sent items" is sufficient or unlimited...

The ones I said were a security concern and unlikely to blow up.

We didn't even get to the "Port channel" issue, I stopped talking when the director told me to shut up.
