Looking for a 12 to 16 port switch for my every expanding v-lab. My only requirements are gigabit and vlan tagging/trunking as all its doing is ToR for a cluster of vsphere hosts, rest is down to price. Must also be fanless or at least bloody quiet.
Anybody got suggestions? currently using a $100AUD DGS-1100-08 which is perfect except running out of ports LOL (they run out quick if you have 3 vhosts!!!!).
What's your budget? I've been eyeballing the 12 port EX2200 because it's fanless. A bit expensive though. Maybe a 2960C model?
I have a couple Netgear GS108T's around the house. They are Gigabit, one port PoE, can do VLANs/Trunk, LAG, QoS, SNMP, and several other features. The GS108T is an 8 port copper model. They've got a 10 port model as well that adds two fiber connections. After that they get bigger and it looks like that's where the fans come in.

+1 on the GS108T. Make sure you get V2. There are some V1's on the used market. You can also get into the CLI if your google-fu is up to par. If need be you can always link 2 of them together via LAG for more ports.
Also may want to give TP-link a look. TL-SG1016DE looks to be a good contender. Their physical product looks near identical to netgear's (TL-SG108E, etc). Wouldn't be surprise if it is the same OEM in China
thanks, found a colleague with a spare 8 port managed so I'll just borrow that
wish I had the budget for an EX2200!
EX2200-C-12T-2G would be nice for sure...
