Just finished almost 4 hours of doing an upgrade call. Copying files, watching progress bars, and waiting for stuff to finish rebooting and restarting took up 3 hours and 57 minutes. Spent all of 3 minutes taking screen caps at the start and exporting settings files and then checking stuff at the end.
There are times when we are paid to be bored...

Sounds like that may be a reason why that was your last job. :smug:

Do what I do, do it at the weekend and while you're waiting:
* Play old records on the sound system and enjoy the ambience
* Research stuff online
* Drink Earl Grey tea
* Dust and vacuum your study
* File your tax return
Actually, it would be nice to have a tool that sends an alert when the system is finished and ready. When I was doing Cisco CUCM updates, it emails you once it's finished which is handy.
ps. I don't get paid overtime so it was my time anyway.
Definitely knowing how to manage those long stretches between clicking "OK" to start the upgrade and when it's finally 100% complete is a soft skill every IT person, not just networkers, needs to develop.
If you expect all action all the time, you will burn out on the first reboot that takes longer than 5 minutes to complete...
