Age 70, working and job hunting again

In the August 13, 2019 Ask The Headhunter Newsletter a reader fends off age discrimination. Question I am 70 years old and still actively working. I have been a consultant for an energy company since early this year, serving in an interim role. The company had a disastrous last year. I was brought in to help turn some of this around in the first quarter and "stand in" until a full-time person arrived. This was to have been a 4-5 month assignment; I am still here. ^ This can absolutely happen to us. With Millennials not going into IT, we're going to be able to do this until we drop dead, if we want to... or need to...

I don't think it isn't that the younger generation isn't getting into IT it is that they are doing different things in IT. Just like I didn't learn Cobol because it was dying. However, it is still out there, and those guys can make bank. In another 20 years someone who knows "Legacy" networking will be able to make a good living maintaining systems that the company can't or won't upgrade to SD Whatever, or cloud things.

... except it's not the kids doing the cloud stuff, either. Everyone in IT seems to be about my age and older, even the guys running the cloud providers. The exceptions are the young guys from India and Eastern Europe...
