Title: American Football 2019-2020 Thread
Post by: deanwebb on September 10, 2019, 02:21:54 PM
Week One is done... I had fun watching the Eagles/Washington game and even more fun with Dallas/Giants. NFC East looks like it'll be a contest between Philly and Dallas for the division title.

Also watched Packers/Bears... kinda ugg, that one. Bears defense is really tough, but the Bears offense is in need of some major counseling. They managed to get to 1st and *40* with a series of drive-killing penalties. Game was 10-3, with the Bears lucky to have that 3.

Sunday night was Patriots/Steelers. I was kinda stoked for that one, expecting a big contest. Instead, pretty early in the game, Mike Tomlin sent out the punting crew on 4th and 1 and I thought, "Well, the Steelers have lost this game." I left off watching at half time, so I missed seeing the Steelers, down by a lot, kick a field goal when they were *inches* from the goal line. What are they waiting for, some talented players to sign up on their roster? No, I think I'll ask Bill Belichek's real estate manager about renting out that beach cottage he's got inside of Tomlin's head. View must be amazing from there.

Didn't see Saints/Texans last night, and I think I should have, with it coming down to a 58-yard FG attempt with 2 seconds left. Saw that play and it was great.

Most embarrassing loss this week... Cleveland? Miami? No, those were teams with known issues. I'll give the most embarrassing loss to the Steelers. That's a team that's supposed to be a Super Bowl contender, not a creampuff opponent for the Pats to pad out their record with.

I turned on the TV to watch the Raiders game, and caught the last 6 minutes of the Saints game. That was intense. Up 3, Up 6, tied, missed kick, flag, made kick, then field goal with 2 seconds to go back up by 2. I ended up not watching the Raiders as my wife got home, and I did stuff with her instead. All the other games I watched were meh. I saw most of the Patriots/Steelers, but couldn't get into it.

Meanwhile, off the field... the Patriots just signed Antonio Brown, who got hit with a lawsuit alleging rape...

I watched half the ravens game. As it turned into a clinic, I turned it off.

Tonight is Bucs v Panthers... on NFLN... don't have the network, don't care for the Bucs, so I'll watch the debate, instead.

No 7-second delay, so maybe Biden or O'Rourke lets a few spicy adjectives fly. :problem?:

Week 2 roundup...

1. It is unsafe to be a QB: Big Ben and Brees are out, a bunch of others with nicks and dings. Looks like everybody should start eating avocado ice cream like Tom Brady does.

2. Speaking of Tom Brady, I hear Greenpeace is going to protest him after what the Patriots did to the Dolphins on Sunday. In two games, over 100 points have been scored on the Floridian Sea Mammals. Hard times for those guys.

3. Speaking of hard times: Pittsburgh. Ouch. New Orleans. Double ouch. Yes, there's a lot of talent on both those teams, but the talent was built to go with the big arms of those two giants of the gridiron. Now those teams have moderately-sized participants of the gridiron, so they're heading into needing some revisions of their plays and calling.

4. Speaking of revisions of plays and calling: Well done, new guy in the Offensive Coordinator role at Dallas! You got Dak Prescott distributing the ball to everybody and his grandma, so the defenses don't know who to cover. Neither Washington nor NY Giants had slacker defenses: this may be the real deal in Big D.

5. Speaking of the real deal: Reports of Jimmy Garropolo's demise are inaccurate. The West Coast Numbers look like they got what they paid for in him, hope he stays healthy.

6. Speaking of healthy: The Chicago Bears' kicking game is alive and well. After the last-minute FG win on Sunday, I think their fans will no longer hear "POONG! POONG!" in their heads as the kicker trots out on the field. And with that defense, Chicago can easily be a force to reckon with, provided it gets its offense together.

7. Speaking of getting that offense together: After trading field goals on Sunday night, both Atlanta's Ryan and Philly's Wentz woke up and realized their teams were supposed to be scoring *touchdowns*, and began playing accordingly. The Falcons flew higher than the Eagles, largely because the Eagles lost plenty yards on penalties.

8. Speaking of penalties: I have a new mutual fund that focuses on firms that manufacture penalty flags for the NFL, ticker symbol ZEBRA. So far this season, it is way, way up. Why, it jumped up by 7 in the Vikings-Packers game, and went up another 7 in the Saints-Rams game.

The Falcons Eagles game was pretty good. Disappointed by the Jets Browns game last night. I agree with you on the Saints / Stealers. They are all built around their star QB, and now have to figure out how to play without them. Also more drama on the AB front. Something about him farting on doctors? In other news Hockey is in pre-season. My wife is traveling for our last two pre-season games so I will go in her place.

Doctor farting? That's a thing?

/me does a Google search...

Apparently so, and there's even a video of such... good gosh, I'm glad I don't have any co-workers like that... we take care of our wind in the server racks, like any decent person should!  :smug:

Ravens game was out of market, due to some stoopid NFL rules.  game not on,  I'm waiting until NFL channel replays,  my DVR will catch it and I can see it then.  sent time working in the garden.

Fun fact: if you live in Canada or Mexico, you can see all the games, no blackouts.
