Title: Multicast Pros - BSR vs Auto-RP
Post by: NetworkGroover on December 19, 2019, 11:38:47 AM
Hey folks - anyone have experience working with both of these?  Are there pros to Auto-RP over BSR that would influence you to want to stick with Auto-RP despite it being proprietary?  How do you handle devices in-path that don't support it?  Do you tunnel past them, remove them, etc.?  Thanks!

AutoRP needs flooding, pretty much everything (including everything with a Cisco badge) supports BSR so not seeing the need for AutoRP really
Though a lot of solutions will push proprietary RP clustering technologies like Nexus Anycast RP (easier simpler faster failover etc)

If you're talking leaf-spine multicast underlay though then I prefer phantom RP (easiest cleanest) for a standards based solution
