Title: Cisco live lunch?
Post by: dlots on May 20, 2015, 03:19:52 PM
Anyone else going to Cisco live?
If so any interest in doing lunch some time; seems there is ALOT going on in the evenings but I don't see anything scheduled around noon maybe we have more people who can make a lunch.

It's my 1st time at Cisco live :-D

Most of the places near the Moscone around lunch time are going to be PACKED.

Walk a few blocks away, though, and the crowds aren't so bad.

Wensday at noon?
No idea about where to eat or anything like that, I don't know the area at all... even a little bit

I'd suggest 11AM, since that's right when the lunch crowds start to form, and you have a chance at getting a table somewhere. There's a really good noodle shop on 4th, just north of Moscone North and pretty much across the street from Moscone West.

If you go when there's a keynote happening, you've got a real good chance of getting quick service.

Agreed and QFT. This is San Francisco, you're on the company card, get some good food in you.

That's right. Still, San Diego has some good eats, I'm sure. I'm just planning to go back to RSA next year, so I'm keeping my Frisco game fresh.

I live in San Diego.  Let me know if you want to know good places to eat.

EDIT - Would like to meet you guys in person - that'd be cool.  I got to speak with burnyd a bit on the phone a while ago.  First live interaction with a N-Fs.com member. :)

How many people can you sit comfortably in your car, AspiringNetworker? Maybe you can whisk them to a part of town not slammed at lunchtime by convention-goers.

Up to you whether or not you want to have the logo of a Cisco competitor prominently displayed on your vehicle as a means of easily identifying it in the hustle and bustle of the convention...

:problem?:

How much time will you have?  I assume it's being held at the convention center - I know a few places in and around the area that may be just a bit outside walking distance that may not be too busy during that timeframe... some things that immediately come to mind:

Italian?  Bencotto:
http://lovebencotto.com/ (http://lovebencotto.com/)
* If you've never had gelato like me, I'd also highly recommend at some point you check out Pappalecco - it's freakin' good!  The cute authentic Italian (or good impersonators) girls that work at the one in Little Italy aren't bad on the eyes either, haha.

Love meat? Fogo De Chao:
http://www.fogodechao.com/menu (http://www.fogodechao.com/menu)
*Warning:  It's all you can eat meat - so be prepared for the "itis" to set in in the afternoon.  It's ridiculous.  Haven't went there for lunch though.

Eye candy, great burgers and other food (Way better than Hooters)?  Tilted Kilt:
http://www.tiltedkilt.com/locations/missionvalley/ (http://www.tiltedkilt.com/locations/missionvalley/)
*Be sure to check out the photo gallery for a preview.. *cough*

Wanna snuggle?  Melting Pot(Fondue):
http://www.meltingpot.com/san-diego-gaslamp/welcome (http://www.meltingpot.com/san-diego-gaslamp/welcome)
*Ok - that was a joke... "unless you goin' do it"

There's also great sushi, pho, and other stuff too, but I'd have to ask some buddies for good spots.  There's a TON of good places to eat in San Diego.  There's San Diego favorites like Phil's BBQ and In-N-Out burger as well...

It's an accord sedan so I can fit 3 comfortably, 4 with a squeeze - and no need to worry about making my head explode if you guys want to talk Cisco. ;)  I'll just stare into my beer and keep my comments to myself..... haha.

Good Mexican?

Ugh, see I'm the wrong person to ask  for that.  I love Mexican fast food, but as for restaurants, I haven't found one I've liked yet.  I guess I just don't dig "real" Mexican food. I like fish/california/carne asada burritos, and carne asada fries (Once in a blue moon - that's like a heart attack in a box) - but that's about as far as I get except maybe Taco Bell... lol.

If you're seriously interested let me know and I'll ask around.. I know there's some good spots in Old Town just don't remember the name. In general though, there's a ton of Mexican food places out here as well.

There is no good sushi here in north Texas so Im down! Fresh fish or sea food as well. We have more good authentic Mexican food restaurants here than people here but its mostly true Mexican or TexMex so some Cali-style Mexican would be a good change. I also love all things Thia and oriental.

But as long as there is beer Im game.

Ah jeez - you're opening the whole gambit here... well suffice to say, you can find pretty much anything in San Diego... aside from what I've already  mentioned... Indian, Thai, Vietnamese (Love the spicy fried rice with chicken.. omg...), whatever.

You guys work out what you want to do and when... and I'll figure out places

As for fresh seafood... I went to this place only once but man I'd go again if I weren't lazy...
http://bluewaterseafoodsandiego.com/ (http://bluewaterseafoodsandiego.com/)

It's like a seafood market, but they cook it for you right there on the spot.  I did a salmon with avacado and whatever sauce it was.. can't remember, on a sandwich, and it was AWESOME!  It's tricky though - the guys I went with told me we were lucky because usually there's a line wrapped around the building for lunch.

Oh, and I have to at least throw this out there... dunno if it would be weird to go with dudes.. it kinda is to me, but that's just me... but if you want to check out a cool place that focuses on nothing but desserts:

http://extraordinarydesserts.com/ (http://extraordinarydesserts.com/)

Great dessert - and interestingly enough, they put a gold flake on each one.

Really close for those of us without a car.

That would probably be terrible for lunch - it's very close to the convention center.  Plus, if you're going to do that, you might as well do the provided lunch :P  Just kidding... the few times I ate there I don't think it was too bad... but definitely not toward the top of my list.  If you're going to walk though, yeah your choices a *little* limited - your saving grace is the convention center is literally across the street from the gaslamp district.... lots of restaurants with posted menus in front you can walk around and check out.

EDIT - AND I believe the Downtown Tilted Kilt is there by the Padres stadium which you won't be too far from.

Lunch is slammed for me all week so it will have to be Tuesday. I dont care about the keynote that day so 11 - 12:30 works for me.

Dinner is more flexable so I can actually do both.
Title: Re: Cisco live lunch?

Maybe y'all should plan a lunch AND a dinner, and hope for overlap between the two so that everyone there is at most two hops removed. It would form a partial mesh with density topology, if each of you were a router, and... I think I'll stop here.

Lol jeez guys - do we need to come up with a color chart? ;)

So burnyd said he can't do dinner - he didn't mention days of the week so I'm assuming for the entire trip.  So that leaves us with lunch.  that1guy15 says he's slammed for every day but Tuesday.  So is everyone good with Tuesday lunch?  If not... maybe we should make that chart :P
