It's really hard to study while on norco, ibuprofen, and muscle relaxers... :partay:
What happened? You have an operation recently?

Nah not nearly as exciting... I somehow injured my back. I was going to wait till today to schedule something with my doc but it started hurting really bad for no reason yesterday so I was freaking out it may be something else, so I went to Urgent Care. I felt stupid when the doc told me it was probably just a spasm/sprain. I never go to the hospital and he had obviously checked my record and saw that the last time I was given any medication was a muscle relaxer back in 2010, so he probably saw I wasn't just trying to get meds, so he hooked me up. ;)
Towards the end he asked if I had kids and it clicked that it may have been from throwing my kids around the pool the other day... damn it sucks getting old....
When I have back spasms, I reach for my cold pack and apply that for 20 minutes, then 2 hours of heating pad. Repeat later in the day. After a day or two or three of this, things are much, much better.

Eesh - this is the first time something like that's happened to me. Hopefully it doesn't happen again any time soon, but good to know.
I really need to get a better chair, too.... looking at either Steelcase or Aeron but the wife doesn't want me blowing a wad of cash on an expensive chair until we move into a house where I'll actually have a real office. ;)
I'm 47. "Watch your back" has a whole different meaning for oldsters like me. Lifting, sitting, how I sit as I drive, I gotta take all that into careful consideration.
And then there's sciatica...
need to google some back exercises and start doing them to build up the muscles in your back.
I had bad issues years ago. spend a good number of them doing the above, knock on wood, i've had no issues since.
here i googled for you

Before I got sick and then got this back issue, I regularly went to a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class, and worked out on off days. I've never had an issue like this before. That's why I was kinda freaked out about it and went to urgent care instead of my regular doc - I thought there was something wrong lol...
But I wouldn't be surprised since I'm getting older, and lord knows my time in the Navy I was always humping something... ammo cans, mooring lines, my fellow shipmates, etc.
But yes - I've seen several mentions on health forums I occasionally glance at mention doing lower back exercises to alleviate issues like this, so I'll likely give it a shot if this becomes a chronic issue and not some freak incident.
Two books pretty much saved my way of life after a self inflicted back injury.
1) Becoming a Supple Leopard, by Kelly Starrett
2) Foundation, by Eric Goodman
It took a little time, but I'm back at 100%. The hard part is remembering the preventive maintenance once the pain stops nagging at you.

If you have enough good days in a row, it's so easy to forget that you're not having bad days because of your preventative measures.
