It's even funnier than that. Oliver left out how one-third of all our weapons and Russian weapons are on a rapid launch standing. That means, they are set to launch as soon as enemy ICBMs are detected on their way in, so that they can be in the air before the first wave hits. With that in mind, there are a number of potential glitches in the early warning system that have triggered false positives over the years. Either one has a failure, both sides send their stuff into the air and that's all she wrote.

Oliver also left out Russian security lapses, which resulted in a number of missing warheads after the 1991 coup/transition from Communism. There are a few missing US warheads, but not as many as the Russian missing.

My last job was in the security department of the Pantex plan here in Amarillo TX. Hands down the most interesting and odd jobs I have ever had. I hope I never have to go back :)
