Title: Operate Cisco ONS 15454
Post by: dipenshah on March 03, 2016, 06:36:37 PM
Hi All,

I have a CISCO ONS 15454 and Cisco 7201 available in my Lab. I am Telecommunications student and have 2 adjacent labs in my college (Fiber Optics Lab and Networking Lab). I have all the possible equipment's with me.

I want to start working on project which connects 2 labs or which uses Fiber technology in Networking.

I have already worked on devices like a ED-COM unit, SFPs, Wave Surfer Oscilloscope, OTDRs, Spectral analyzer and many more required in Fiber Optics lab. I want to use my Fiber and networking knowledge in one project.

I have no idea how to go with the networking devices I have and would love some advice for the same.

I would also like to go through some tutorials on Cisco ONS - very basic.

Thanks,
Dipen

The simplest thing you could do is connect two of the ONS 15454's together and then put a router on each end. Once the routers can talk to each other you've made you're first DWDM circuit. I would advise to use some attenuators between the ONS 15454's though. Connecting them together within the same building without it you will burn out those optics.

You're my guru now!! I am going to do this right away!

I will come back if I face any issues :)

Thanks a lot.  :thankyou:
