Security / Crazy or Smart?
October 07, 2021, 12:59:36 AM
Crazy, maybe stupid idea I want to run by you guys. Will it even work?

So let's say I have an LTE hotspot device. can I attach a router that has LTE capability (i think GLInet has one) and/or an external antenna on the hotspot device AND put the hotspot device in a faraday bag? there are those routers that also have a lte/4g antenna on them. my goal is to completely mask/block off my telecommunication provider from being the first point of contact with my data. I know there's VPN and stuff but I feel this is safer maybe? What do you guys think? any recommendations if not good.

Security / Question Regarding Remote Connection
September 27, 2021, 01:02:05 PM
Hey guys, I've always had trouble with RDP, I never could memorize the format of the connection name on the Windows RDP connection. LOL sounds stupid but its true. I don't know if its suppose to be (pc username) \ (ip address):(port) Is it always the same format??

More importantly though:
How come some connections require a "no-ip" in order to RDP or specific DNS? For example, for our business account we have a server setup and I have the following info saved: assigned static ip , gateway , net mask , primary name server , secondary name server . Is that meant for basically connecting to my business IP remotely??

IS there a way i can configure that static IP to work on my laptop kind of like a VPN or  like amplifi teleport (amplifi has a really cool feature it turns your home router into a vpn essentially allowing you to connect to your home IP from anywhere in the world). IS that what this info will mainly be used for? Remote connections? Also I'm just curious in general, why business accounts need this as opposed to residential does not.

Wireless / Using Connection from Server on Host
September 21, 2021, 07:34:32 PM
Hello all! New member here and I have a question regarding my networking setup (fairly new so bare with me if it sounds stupid)

I have a dedicated server that I use as my main OS. I do this because my country charges and slows down internet based on usage so I connect to my server to do all my heavy downloading of files. My work requires me to download gigs of data and its convenient this way (aside from the graphic sometimes lagging).

Im aware of VPN's but will it be possible to for exmaple use my Servers connection to connect and download files on my actual host PC. If you ue a VPN, youre ISP is still able to see your DATa usage (which is my main cocern, i use too much data). Am I able to connect to my server or any server actually and solely use that servers internet rather than leave my desktop and connect directly to that server.

Sorry if I don't make sense I will elaborate more if anyone want to help and doesnt seem to understand my question.

Thanks all! :)
