Mixing equipment made by the same vendor can have a few issues, but is generally doable.

Mixing equipment made by different vendors can have so many issues, it'll make you want to just buy another piece of gear from one of the vendors and be done with it. Even though there is an EasyMesh standard, none of the wifi vendors out there has any incentive to use it.

I believe the velop may?  It can be set up in a mesh network.  (I actually have another velop node, but it seems to be broken.)

does either have the capability to be a wifi extender or a repeater?

Hi all, Techy-ish dude here, but limited knowledge of computer networks.

I've set up a home LAN/WAN as shown in the picture below. Generally works great.

The two wifi routers are creating two separate Wifi networks, with different names, although they do share the same password.  Is it possible to set them up in such a way so that they create a single, wider area, network, rather than the two separate wifi networks I have currently?  They are from different manufacturers, so I'm not sure if a wifi mesh would work, but since I have the cable routed out there anyway, I was thinking there might be a way to get them to play nicely since they're all running from the same LAN?

Is it just a matter of remaining one of them, or would I need to do some fancy IP address renumbering and wifi channel changing?  (I'm not totally opposed to purchasing a second one of either of these routers if it will make it easier, but it'd be nice if I didn't have to...)

Or is this just not possible?

Thanks,
Geoff

Policy is the heart of Forescout, knowing what a broken policy looks like is key to fixing customer issues when they make broken policies because they are just guessing at things.

I did not. Ultimately I was not as prepared as I needed to be. My understanding of policy creation and flow needs attention and unfortunately policy is weighted the most heavily on the exam. I also wasted a bunch of time troubleshooting around a fat-fingered domain credential  :XD:

Giving it another go in a couple weeks.

Question: are your switches and the Internet router capable of supporting different VLANs? If yes, do they also support security rules for controlling traffic on the VLANs?

If yes, the solution is in there. If no, then additional network gear will be needed to handle the segmentation of the network.

Home and Small Office Networking / Networking Dilemma: Isolating ...

Hello guys.

I have a networking challenge that I hope the community can help me solve. Here's the setup:

On the 9th floor, I have a PC, NVR, 2 private cameras, and an internet router. On the 2nd floor, I've placed an access point and a smart switch, both of which need internet connectivity from the 9th-floor router. Additionally, on the ground floor, there's a main switch that connects to all the cameras.

My goal is to isolate the 9th-floor cameras and internet from the main switch, but I still want the 2nd-floor access point to have internet access. The tricky part is that I only have one cable running from the 9th floor to the 2nd floor.

to conclude: I want to connect my NVR to the main switch. and the access point to my main router that provides internet to share internet in the 2nd floor. isolated from each other using only 1 cable from the 9th floor.
